In a few short weeks, BAFTA- and Emmy-nominated actor Michael Sheen will be taking over the big comfy chair and odd silhouette of the long-running trivia show Richard Osman’s House of Games. The show’s prior namesake, producer/creator/author/giant Richard Osman, announced earlier that he was stepping down from the show in order to focus more on his writing.
The latest series will begin on September 28 with comedians Miles Jupp, Cariad Lloyd, Lucy Porter and Kiell Smith-Bynoe as Richard Osman’s final week’s guests. After that week, the show will be hosted by Sheen. The show, however, will not be taking his name, a departure from the pattern set by the Australian version of House of Games, which has host Claire Hooper’s name in the title.
House of Games is a pleasant daily format—each week, four celebrities take part in a series of clever trivia mini-games that tests different facets of trivia knowledge. Every day, the player with the most points receives an apparently very nice and real prize, festooned with the host’s likeness on it. At the end of the week, the most successful player takes home a trophy.
